The history of the Cosmopolitan is again fiercely disputed (like with many other cocktails!)
Widely, it is credited to Tony Cecchini of The Odeon, Manhattan, in 1987. It’s essentially a variation on a Kamikaze cocktail and Cecchini was introduced to a semblance of a Cosmo, by his colleague Melissa Huffsmith, who had picked up the original recipe from friends in San Francisco, which included vodka, lime cordial, and grenadine and was fairly unpalatable.
Tony Cecchini then gave its some bartender treatment and added fresh lime and citron vodka, before swapping out the grenadine with cranberry juice.
The Cosmopolitan, was given a stratospheric foot up the ladder via sitcom Sex And The City, as the cocktail was a favourite of the shows characters.
