The History of the Cosmopolitan
The Cosmopolitans history is hotly contented and the source of endless debate. What we do know is a cocktail that vaguely resembled the modern-day classic first appeared in the 1933 cocktail book Pioneers of Mixing at Elite Bars 1903-1933. Fast forward to the 1980s and it is said that two bartenders contributed to the modern classic, Melissa Huffsmith and Tony Cecchini. Huffsmith was said to be the first to stick with a simple vodka and cranberry creation, before her colleague Cecchini refined the drink to what we know today, Absolute Citron, Cointreau, Cranberry Juice and fresh lime.
