Celebrating our talented team on International Women’s Day
On this year’s International Women’s Day, we meet the talented women who make our world class events a reality.
What is International Women’s Day?
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrated on 8th March each year to mark the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
The date was officially adopted by the United Nations in 1975, but events had been happening on this date since 1911.
2022’s theme is “Break the Bias” – a move to end prejudice, stereotypes and discrimination facing women.
The Cocktail Service Team
According to marketing and analysis firm Creative Culture, the drinks industry ranks quite well when it comes to diversity, equity, and inclusion – with companies like Diageo ranked #2 in Refinitiv’s Global D&I index in 2019.
Of course, there is always more to be done, which is why we’re using this IWD to shine a lime on the achievements of the team of leading talents which we’re lucky enough to work alongside.
Georgia Hylton – Senior Event Planner
What do you love most about working in the events industry?
It’s got to be the people and some of the most incredible venues that I’ve worked at!
From private houses to the coolest offices, iconic stately homes, and unique venues all round London and further!
It’s also that no two days and briefs are the same.
I love getting creative, especially with themed events, brainstorming with the team to make sure the drinks are exactly on point with the aesthetics and the taste. Bringing the vision to life!
What’s your career highlight?
I’ve got two.
The first highlight is pre-TCS. I worked on Anya Hindmarch’s “Chubby Hearts Campaign” at Wellington Arch with well-known Suppliers in the Industry.
It was designed as a Love Letter to London on Valentine’s Day. Beautiful concept! I loved how they would mysteriously appear across the capital in different locations.
A more recent highlight would be a fantastic event that I worked on at Cliveden House.
I worked with an amazing team to transform the venue and bring the clients vision to life. The bar was completely bespoke for this event!
It was all in the details, from the garnishes to the cocktail names, to the table plan. Completely unique and it was great to see everyone have the best night.
Always a Martini – French, Espresso or Passionfruit!
Tilly Moorhouse – Community Manager @ The Cocktail Society
What do you love about working in the drinks industry?
Favourite thing about the drinks industry is how it’s ever changing.
I’m so lucky in my job that there are so many aspects that we get to research into, be it new cocktails, unique spirit brands or the wackiest snacks!
Getting the opportunity to partner with other brands and be featured in other boxes has been so eye opening and fun!
Career highlight so far?
The live events we get to attend – I’ve been lucky enough to lead masterclasses and tastings and act as a brand ambassador for our bottled cocktail range at the BBC Good Food Show.
Being early in my career it’s also been amazing to be given the opportunity and responsibility to lead the partnerships programme for our cocktail subscription box.
Getting to talk to more established brands has given me such an insight into how the wider drinks industry works.
And finally… which cocktail is the best?
The Tommy’s Margarita, of course.
Stacey Lygo – Head of Design
What’s your favourite part of working in your current role in the drinks industry?
What I love most – I would have to say the people.
Of all the industries I have worked in, they are definitely the nicest to work with.
No pretentiousness or in it for themselves, just genuinely want to work as a team and do the best job possible.
Career highlight so far?
There are things in my career that I am very proud of such as awards won for projects I have been involved in and developing and managing a creative team from 5 to 20 individuals.
But the highlight of my career is that every day I get to do something that I love to do, working with amazing people and with the flexibility to do it around my family life.
I get to work on a swanky bar design or a bespoke cocktail box sleeve in the morning, and then making pebble art pictures with my girls after school, what could be better?!
I’m a firm believer that life is too short for favourites!
I like to try as many different things as I can (including cocktails).
Having said that I could quite happily drink Slim Santas all night long.
Charlotte Clarke – Drinks Consultant
What do you like best about working in the drinks sector?
The best thing about the industry is the diversity and how different it is every day.
One day I’ll be creating new recipes for our events and cocktail boxes, and the next I’ll be travelling up and down the country training bar teams on how to make world class drinks.
This has to be the project we did with Red Bull last summer running a series of masterclasses at Latitude and Wilderness festival.
The space was absolutely stunning, and the atmosphere on site was like no other.
Camp Wildfire was an absolute blast as well!
Finally, what’s your go-to cocktail?
The Espresso Martini. All and any variations!
Stacey Cullen – Head of Staffing
What’s the best thing about working in the event staffing industry?
Getting to work with the best talents in the industry, every single day!
No two days are the same, and I just love the diversity and creativity that goes into making each event a reality.
Career highlight so far?
I feel that joining The Cocktail Service has been the best decision I have made.
I feel appreciated, supported, and have room to develop. The culture that we have within the business is second to none.
It’s got to be the classic Cosmopolitan! Initially inspired by my love of Carrie Bradshaw many moons ago and has been my go-to ever since.
Antoaneta Flynn – Finance Manager
An integral part of The Cocktail Service operations – without her, things just would not get done!
The events scene often focuses on the glamour of luxurious venues, amazing food and drinks, and winning hospitality.
However, the hard work of the finance teams in keeping things going should never be forgotten.
