The Brief

Following our successful collaboration with MPR Communications on an influencer kit for Rampur Distillery, we were once again approached to create an influencer gift, this time featuring Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin.

This kit would be released in conjunction with Holi Festival, with drinks to match.

The Extraordinary Experience

Holi is an ancient Hindu festival which is celebrated each year across two days. It’s also known as the Festival of Spring, the Festival of Colours or the Festival of Love.

The festival is perhaps most well known for the second day, where perfumed powder called gulal is thrown at everyone!

The team at MPR were keen to incorporate elements of this into the kit, and make the experience as interactive as possible.

After brainstorming, it was decided to include a paint brush so that the cocktail glasses could be decorated with bright paints.

The Design Phase

First impressions are vital in most aspects of life, but never more so than when sending out influencer kits.

You need to inspire the recipient and get their creative juices activated from the moment they set eyes on your product. If this is achieved, the content created will be better, and more engaging, leading to further reach across social media.

“A Dynamic Explosion of Colour”

Our brief was to be as bright and colourful as possible, tying back into the throwing of gulal paint on the second day of Holi.

Our in-house designer Stacey created several options which we then developed in conversations with the client.

The final design selected featured a dynamic explosion of colour, with paint firing out from the centre of the box, with the Jaisalmer Gin logo front and centre.

Recipe Development

Our drinks development team used a bottle of Jaisalmer Craft Indian Gin to experiment with various flavours and cocktail styles to create three perfect serves for Holi Festival.

Jaisalmer Mango Panagam

Jaisalmer Mango Panagam, one of three limited edition cocktails created for Jaisalmer Gin

A Panagram (sometimes spelt Panakam) means “sweet drink” in Sanskit, and is a South Indian drink traditionally served in summer.

We chose flavours which would complement the flavour profile of Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin, with refreshing mango and sharp lime offset by a warming ginger ale.

Ingredients

50ml Jaisalmer Gin

15ml Mango Syrup

20ml Lime Juice

Ginger Ale

Method

Add the Jaisalmer Gin and Mango Syrup to a rocks glass. Next add the lime juice.

Top with cubed ice, then fill the rest of the glass with Ginger Ale.

Garnish with Coconut Chips.

Jaisalmer Spiced Orange G&T

Did You Know? The Gin and Tonic was actually invented in India. During the 1820s, British Army officers mixed quinine and sugar in an attempt to ward off malaria. In doing so they created the first tonic water.

Adding gin made the drink more palatable, and the ever popular drink was born!

In homage to this, we created a spiced orange gin and tonic using Jaisalmer Gin.

Ingredients

50ml Jaisalmer Gin

15ml Simple Syrup

Orange Juice, freshly squeezed

Aromatic Tonic Water

Method

Add the gin and syrup to a hi-ball glass.

Half an orange and squeeze the fresh juice into a glass.

Add cubed ice and top with tonic water.

Garnish with a dehydrated lime wheel.

Jaisalmer Rose Spritz

Holi is the festival of Spring, so this final cocktail uses rose lemonade to create a long drink perfect for sipping in the early evening.

Ingredient

50ml Jaisalmer Gin

15ml Grapefruit Syrup

20ml Lime Juice

Rose Lemonade

Method

Add the gin and syrup to a hi-ball glass.

Squeeze the fresh lime and add cubed ice.

Top with rose lemonade and garnish with an edible flower.

Capturing The Spirit of Holi

With years of experience working with leading drinks brands (and launching one of our own) we know the importance of imagery, and how it can position your brand.

Researching Holi Festival, and the concepts behind it obviously led us to the throwing of paint, and fairly quickly we knew that this would feature in our campaign imagery.

However, we also wanted to pay homage to the first day of Holi. Traditionally, families will gather in the evening around a bonfire, and celebrate the triumph of good over evil.

To achieve this evening effect, we used a dark background and arranged the bottle of Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin simply on a tray on a dark wooden table.

The dark background allowed us to play with different lighting to achieve a glow on the frosted black of the gin bottle, highlighting this premium element of the product.

It also created a sense of calm and quiet; of times spent with friends sipping cocktails and catching up.

Then it was time for the fun stuff!

Achieving the hero shots was more difficult than it looks. Simply throwing paint created a mist rather than the chunks of paint seen at Holi Festival.

We experimented with throwing from various angles (including one photoshoot stylist lying under the table and throwing paint upwards) and eventually, with some crucial timing, managed to capture the winning shots.

Feedback

The cocktails were featured in online publications and blogs with a readership of 1.9 million.

Blogs included Foodepedia, On In London, Our Man on the Ground, and Desi Blitz.

Additionally, a number of social media influencers posted images and videos of the kit on their stories and feed, with a combined estimated reach of 1.43 million.

About Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin

A triple-distilled neutral grain spirit, Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin is re-distilled in a copper pot still. The recipe remains hand-crafted, following time-honoured tradition.

It has a long and refreshing finish which lingers on the palate long after drinking.

With a regal chic, frosted black bottle with embossed gold lettering, the spirit pays homage to the bygone imperial era of Maharajas and Maharanis.

Eleven botanicals are used in the gin, seven of which are sourced from across India.

The coriander and vetiver, a peppery spice, are grown around Jaisalmer, a city in the northwest of India, famous for it’s historical fort.

Citrus elements in the gin are complements by sweet orange peel sourced from central India.

The south is represented by cubeb berries an lemon grass, whilst Darjeeling green tea leaves come from the East.

Jaisalmer has a slight taste of aniseed, which is derived from angelia roots, liquorice, and caraway seeds.

Indian whisky giants Radico Khaitan, who are behind the delicious Rampur Single Malt Whisky, are the owners of Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin.
