The History of Take A Break

This beautiful cocktail is created by Kazuhisa Arai, general manager of Sober Company in Shanghai. It is his champion cocktail on Jameson Bartender’s Ball World Mix Master 2016 and signature cocktail from the bar .

In Ireland, tea time is an important social life with friends. In Japan, bath time is an important relaxation time with friends. Combining these two, this cocktail “Take A Break” came to his mind. Hoji-cha is a unique Japanese roasted gee tea. The roasting process reduces the caffeine and tannins. The idea of Hinoki syrup is from Japanese Hinoki wooden bathtubs. Hinoki’s elegant, warm, woody aroma with a clean soft note of citrus helps relieve tension and stress. By using dry ice and Hinoki Sake cup, this cocktail also reminds you of the Japanese spring bath. The lavender in the bitters are also a well-known soothing agent.

Take A Break has been served in Sober Society, the cocktail bar inside of Sober Company since it opened in 2017. Sober Company is one of Asia’s Best 50 Bars from 2017 to 2020, ranked 42nd in World’s Best Bars 2020 and names Best International Restaurant Bar at Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards 2020.
